Doubt

Photobucket
Doubt is set at a Catholic school in the Bronx, it centers on a nun (Meryl Streep) who grows suspicious when a priest(Philip Seymour Hoffman) begins taking too much interest in the life of a young black student. This movie is very strong and suspenseful. The acting of Streep, Hoffman, and Adams is outstanding. You are kept on your toes throughout the length of the feature and the ending reveals all about Streep's idea regarding Hoffman's behavior with the student. Well deserving of the nominations and awards it has received. Go see it and you will gain knowledge about doubt. 3 and a half out of 4 stars.

Marley and Me

Photobucket
Marley and Me stars Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson as the Grogan's. They move in together after getting married. After they settle down in Florida, John Grogan (Wilson), gets his wife a yellow lab. Marley is no ordinary dog...he chews and eats everything in sight. As Marley gets older and they have children, they struggle with their relationship and Marley becomes more of a hassle. They keep Marley, and most things resolve themselves until Marley grows older. This is a great family movie and it delivers laughs and even some tears. Marley is a riot that will make you laugh over and over again! Alan Arkin also stars in the movie as John's boss. There are some hysterical moments from Arkin as well. Great holiday movie that is warm and comforting. 3 out of 4 stars.

Bedtime Stories

Photobucket
Bedtime Stories is a family oriented film starring Adam Sandler. It definitely has it's highs and lows but overall, its a good movie for every age group. Skeeter (Sandler) listens to his niece' and nephew's bedtime stories and the next day the stories come to life. The catch is that they only come true when the children are telling the story. Skeeter suffers from what the kids are saying without them knowing that it actually comes true. 2 and a half out of 4 stars.

Yes Man

Photobucket
Yes Man stars Jim Carrey as a man who doesn't say yes to anything. He goes to a seminar where something comes over him and he suddenly says yes to anything. This movie resembles "Liar Liar." I honestly dislike Jim Carrey and before I entered the theatre I actually thought this film wouldn't be as stupid and idiotic as most of Carrey's other movies. It was dumb of me to think that it would be a good movie. It was nothing but Carrey acting like the moron that he usually is in his movies. I wasn't surprised. I chuckled about 3 times throughout the feature. It was the kind of movie where you can go out for 10-15 minutes, come back, and you wouldn't have missed much. The ending to the film wasn't much better. If you like stupid movies, you will like this one, but otherwise don't waste your money. 1 and a half out of 4 stars.

Seven Pounds

Photobucket
This film was excellent. The whole direction of it was just fantastic and unexpected. Will Smith plays an IRS agent who wants to help 7 people with their lives. There is a huge secret twist in the movie that I will not give away. The secret really grabs you and pulls you into the movie even deeper than you thought it would get. I came into the theatre with mediocre expectations but walked out asking myself many thought provoking questions. It was snubbed for awards and I think that the Golden Globes and Oscars are missing out on a truly great piece of film. This is one of my favorite movies of 2008, and if you get a chance, see it! 3 and a half out of 4 stars.

Nothing Like The Holidays

Photobucket
Nothing Like The Holidays is a story of a big Puerto Rican family that gets together every Christmas. This year is a little different in that they have a son returning from Iraq, another son dating a white woman (Debra Messing) who doesn't want children, and a daughter that is a struggling actress in Hollywood. The mother of the family suspects that her husband is cheating on her and other events in the movie stem from this event and make it even funnier. Good movie and worth seeing on a rainy day. 2 and a half out of 4 stars.

New Year, New Ideas

I'm Mike, and I have decided to create a blog dedicated to reviewing new films. Watching movies has always been an interest of mine and I enjoy looking into the details of a film. For example I usually know when a director has made a mistake. I am here to make people's lives easier. I know that it is hard to trust what a critic says, but I try to keep my ideas as generous as possible so a person doesn't think I have biased views on a specific film. I will try to write a few times a week, or whenever I see a new movie. The point of the first blog is to get an idea of what I'm about. I usually only watch movies that look well done and how can I put this....not stupid. I am a big fan of Larry David and Adam Sandler as comedians, but I also enjoy action flicks and a drama every now and again. You will not see me write about any horror movies because I think they are pointless and confusing. You should be entertained when you watch a movie and not holding on to the gum covered arm rest beside you in a theatre. So enjoy and I will start my reviews ASAP. Please comment!!!
